Travel Insurance

The Importance of Insuring

While it’s easy to think about vacation as a break from all of the worries in life, the truth is that bad things can and do happen while we’re gallivanting around the world. And travel insurance is about so much more than just cancellation coverage (though that’s important!).

  • Flight delays and cancellations are commonplace. Why not have benefits in case you are stuck at the airport for hours on end or, worse, you need to overnight at a hotel unexpectedly?

  • AirTags can help locate your luggage, but until the luggage gets back in your hands you may have expenses for toiletries, clothes, and more. A travel insurance plan may assist with those costs.

  • Even in countries with universal healthcare, hospital bills can be expensive. And your health insurance likely does not cover you outside of the United States. Travel insurance companies can reimburse emergency medical costs and, in some cases, they can work directly with the finance department at your medical facility.

  • While the hospital bills alone might be manageable, the emergency transportation bills might not. Medical evacuations (medevacs) by helicopter are often tens of thousands of dollars, with more remote evacuations costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Many plans have emergency transportation coverage of $250,000 to $1,000,000.

Please note:

  • In order to qualify for their pre-existing medical condition waiver (for free!) and/or their the Cancel Anytime plan types, you have to initiate your policy with 14 days of payment of the first expense for your trip

    • Other companies offer similar windows but usually no more than 21 days

    • Conditions may exist regarding the types of expense you must cover for the waiver to be valid

  • In most cases, you may adjust your travel dates and increase overall trip cost after the policy has been initiated, so as to accurately reflect changes to your trip
